FAQs

How Do I Place an Order?

Call (208) 522-5955 to place your sod orders.

How far in advance do I need to order sod?

At least 24 hours in advance. Scheduling is on a first-come first-serve basis. We recommend scheduling a few days to a week in advance, especially for deliveries.

Does Rocky Mountain Sod come measure my yard?

We do not. Please see our how-to guide for tips on measuring and calculating how many square feet of sod you will need.

How much sod is on a pallet?

A full pallet is 600 square feet - 6 layers of 10 rolls, 10 square feet per roll. You do not need to order in full pallets. Order the desired quantity. We are able to do partial pallets to meet your requirements. 50 square foot increments are preferred. Pallets themselves are just a means of transportation. Please order by the square foot, not the pallet.

How much does sod weigh?

One roll of sod (10 sq/ft) weighs approximately 40-50 pounds. A full pallet (600 sq/ft) weighs approximately 2,400-3,000 pounds.

How long can sod sit on a pallet?

Sod is a perishable item that can spoil if it sits on the pallet for too long. There are a lot of factors that determine the shelf life of sod; temperature being the greatest determining factor. We recommend that you lay your sod as soon as possible. It is usually best to get your sod laid within a day or two of delivery, weather permitting.

How do I return pallets and tubes?

Pallets and tubes can be returned to Rocky Mountain Sod for a full refund; as long as they are returned in usable condition. For returns, bring pallets to 11100 N 95th E Idaho falls, Idaho 83401. Next to the white Rocky Mountain Sod sign, you will find a smaller sign with instructions for your pallet returns. You can return pallets anytime, 24/7.

The instructions are as follows:

  1. Stack your pallets by the sign
  2. Text (208) 522-5955 the name on the order and how many pallets were returned.
  3. You will be refunded within 7 days.
Can I return my un-used or extra sod?

No.

What is the best time of year to lay sod?

We usually harvest from the end of March to the end of November. Sod can be laid any time within that timeframe. Just remember that sod requires more water during the hotter months than during the cooler months.

Should I water before delivery or laying the sod?

No, there is no added benefit to watering before the sod is laid. Watering before delivery or laying the sod only makes the process more difficult for you and the delivery driver. (It is important that the watering process starts immediately after the sod is laid.)
